Flora and fauna

The Killing of wild animals is having a devastating impact and some species face the real possibility of extinction. Elephants, rhinos and tigers are three of the largest threatened species, foolishly slaughtering for their tusks, horns and fur, deaths that often fuel organized crime as well. *

What can you do?

Think twice before buying or consuming something made from an exotic tree, plant or animal, because you may be contributing to its extinction or exploitation. Before you travel, find out about exotic local dishes that may contain illegal products. Don't forget that many countries, perhaps yours as well, impose penalties on those who traffic in protected wild animals, exotic plants, or endangered wood products.

* Transnational organized crime. Crime against the environment: illicit trafficking in wildlife and wood, United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC).

human trafficking

Overall, 55-60% of detected victims of human trafficking are women, while 27% are minors, of which two thirds are girls. *

What can you do?

If you think someone is being forced to work against their will or abused or if you just see something you think is wrong in a bar, hotel or restaurant, please report it. Your actions can be essential to avoid sexual exploitation and forced labor. Children are especially vulnerable: Don't let child abuse take you.

New Code for the separation of waste

The "New color code" is born to which we must adapt for the separation of waste that begins to apply on January 1, 2021. With the unification of the color code at the national level, the people who provide collection, use and Waste treatment can fulfill its role more efficiently and ensure proper disposal of waste to protect the environment, extend the useful life of landfills, generate employment from material reuse, among others. It is expected that, with the implementation of the color code, the collaboration of citizens and the collective awareness of new consumption habits and taking advantage of solid waste, the amount of material recovered and reincorporated into production cycles will increase. Additionally, if a citizen moves from one city to another, the colors to classify the waste will be the same.

GREEN

Usable organic waste such as fruit and vegetable peels and raw food remains.

BLACK

Toilet paper, napkins, prepared food, COVID-19 waste (mask, gloves, etc.)

WHITE

Plastic, glass, metals, paper and cardboard.
